Style Your Threads Visits The Boston School of Fashion Design / By Abla Lajimi
On September 4th, 2018 Jennifer Leclerc, Associate Director of the prestigious Boston School of Fashion Design located at 136 Newbury St. Boston welcomed Style Your Threads founder Geraldine Cole for a private tour of their school and as an intern for Style Your Threads I was very excited to accompany Geraldine on her visit.
One of the first things that caught my eye and that I thought was very clever is that the school is located on the most desirable shopping street in Boston, a street that is not only shopped by the locals and thousands of college students for current and vintage fashion but is also a must stop for the millions of tourists who visit the Boston area; I was also pleasantly surprise that the school was so easily accessible by public transportation.
Like the many students before them the 2018-2019 students will enjoy many perks. First, there’s an amazing student lounge filled with infinite opportunities of inspiration including lots of fashion magazines, notices of local cultural happenings, hand painted fabrics, and lots of sunlight. Right next door you will find another room where creativity has no limit. SFD’s studio art classroom is filled with out-of-this-world dresses made from magazines, bath curtains, newspaper, etc. Downstairs Senior Instructor Daniel Faucher teaches draping and evening wear classes, there is also a library that offers hidden gems like reference books from the 40’s, 50’s etc. and some vintage “Vogue” magazines.
The Boston School of Fashion Design is 85 years in existence, has two Instagram accounts (@sfdbos, @ sfdalumni), an end of the year fashion show, and a year-long series of workshops and speakers;
there is so much more I would love to tell you about my visit to the school, however I recommend that you take time to call the school and set up a private tour of your own.
Please be sure to stay tuned for more exciting news that include “SYT” and the Boston School of Fashion Design 617-536-9343.
